[Update] OnePlus Support Confirms OnePlus N6X Uses eMMC 5.1 Storage Amid Online Confusion

OnePlus N6x 5G – Official Storage Type Confirmed

As per the newly updated specifications page on the OnePlus India website, the OnePlus N6x 5G is equipped with “UFS 2.2 @ 1 Lane HS-G3” internal storage. This officially confirms that the smartphone does not use eMMC 5.1 storage, as previously stated by a OnePlus support representative during a WhatsApp conversation with a user.

However, this is not the commonly used two-lane implementation of UFS 2.2. The mention of “1 Lane” indicates that the storage communicates with the processor using a single data lane, whereas a two-lane UFS 2.2 implementation can use two lanes simultaneously and deliver higher peak transfer speeds.

The “HS-G3” portion refers to the High-Speed Gear 3 operating mode of the UFS interface. Therefore, while the OnePlus N6x 5G does indeed feature UFS 2.2 storage, its single-lane configuration could offer lower read and write speeds than smartphones using a two-lane UFS 2.2 implementation.

This could also explain why the storage benchmark results of the OnePlus N6x 5G appeared lower than what users generally expect from UFS 2.2 storage, leading some users to believe that the device was equipped with eMMC 5.1 storage. Nevertheless, the two storage standards are different, and the official specifications now clearly identify the storage used on the device as UFS 2.2.

The confusion surrounding the internal storage type used on the recently launched OnePlus N6x smartphone has been a topic of discussion online. While some users claimed that the device features UFS 2.2 storage, others pointed out that it uses eMMC 5.1 storage. Now, the brand’s support team has reportedly cleared the air.

OnePlus N6x – Internal Storage Type Confirmed

As per a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation shared by a user on X, the user specifically asked the OnePlus support team about the internal storage type equipped on the latest OnePlus N6x smartphone.

Responding to the query, the OnePlus support representative reportedly confirmed that the smartphone uses eMMC 5.1-based internal storage operating in the HS400 mode. Thus putting an end to the rumour regarding the storage type.

A similar confusion was also recently seen surrounding the Samsung Galaxy M47 5G and its rebranded Galaxy F70 Pro 5G version. Samsung had listed the devices with LPDDR5X RAM, although Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset does not support LPDDR5X memory speeds.

The brand later clarified through the Galaxy F70 Pro 5G microsite that although LPDDR5X memory is integrated into the smartphone, it can only deliver up to LPDDR5-level performance because of the limitations of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor.

It would have been better if the internal storage type of the OnePlus N6x had been clearly disclosed through its official specifications, preventing confusion among potential buyers. Nevertheless, following the response shared by the OnePlus support team, the device is now understood to feature eMMC 5.1-based storage operating in the HS400 mode.
