Vivo hosted its developer conference yesterday and unveiled the latest OriginOS 7 operating system. As scheduled, OPPO has now hosted its own developer conference and introduced the Android 17-based ColorOS 17 operating system.

Since OPPO had already confirmed that Realme UI is being discontinued, eligible Realme smartphones will receive ColorOS 17 instead of the expected Realme UI 8 update.

Here’s more about the newly unveiled operating system.

ColorOS 17 – Features and Rollout Schedule

ColorOS 17 introduces a new Fluid Design with luminous visual effects, fluid animations, Polar Light Engine, and responsive feedback. Speaking more about the Polar Light Engine, Oppo claims that this can reduce application start-up and runtime memory usage by 25%, while lowering the rendering workload by 30%.

The new Tidal Engine offers personalised resource scheduling and is claimed to improve background application retention stability by 55.6%. OPPO also claims a 50% improvement in third-party application scrolling and loading speeds, 30% faster mini-program start-up speeds, and a 15% improvement in application-switching speeds. Additionally, the brand promises up to six years of smooth performance across supported devices.

On the AI photography side, ColorOS 17 introduces a new AI Photo Editor for one-stop natural photo editing, which can remove unwanted background objects, reduce motion blur, and adjust image colours and tones. Native 2K ProXDR imaging support has also been offered.

Reference Image Replication allows users to apply the visual style of a reference image to another picture. Furthermore, the Da Vinci Visual Understanding Model uses six specialised models covering light and shadow, image quality, composition, colour, portraits, and image elements.

OPPO has also introduced the AI Assistant Ball, which weighs 9.8gm and offers up to 24 hours of usage. A short press displays key information, whereas a long press allows users to ask questions and receive proactive results.

It also brings Smart Screen Reading, which can read on-screen content aloud with improved recognition accuracy. Morever, the AI anti-fraud protection uses personalised behaviour modelling to identify potential scams across different usage scenarios.

A Care Mode is being offered with the new update, which enables accessibility and safety-related settings with a single tap.

The new-generation Xiaobu AI assistant offers one-stop lifestyle services, whereas Xiaobu Space manages personal tasks and information. Xiaobu Suggestions supports more than 700 service scenarios, and AI Fluid Cloud navigation provides proactive travel reminders.
