News anchor charged amid misleading Rahul Gandhi Video Row

Rohit Ranjan, a Zee TV news anchor, was arrested by the police from his residence in Delhi today, days after the channel ran a misleading fake video of Rahul Gandhi for which he had apologized.  The arrest was done after a case was filed against Ranjan at Noida Sector 20 Police Station.

It was seen policemen from two states -Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh and BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh fighting for the anchor’s custody. Rohit Ranjan even twitted an SOS to the Uttar Pradesh police about the incident when the Chhattisgarh police team landed at his home around 5:30 am. In the tweet, Ranjan claimed that the Chhattisgarh police had arrested him without informing the local police. To this, the Chhattisgarh police replied that they didn’t need to inform anyone as long as there was authorization.

The Ghaziabad police took Ranjan, the journalist to a location that is unknown to prevent his arrest by the Chhattisgarh team. Currently, Ranjan is in the custody of the UP police and also has light bailable charges.

The channel  and Mr. Ranjan himself apologized  on his show by stating, “ Yesterday, in our show DNA, Rahul Gandhi’s statement was taken in the wrong context by linking it to the Udaipur incident, it was a human error for which our team apologizes.”
