Qualcomm officially unveils Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 chip for smart glasses

Back in 2023, Qualcomm launched a Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip that powers the recently launched Ray-Ban Meta glasses. And now yesterday, the company officially introduced its latest Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 chip for smart glasses at the AWE (Augmented World Expo) 2025 event.

Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1

This all-new chip is enhanced with new premium camera capabilities that will take hands-free photo and video capture to the next level. It features improved power management and the ability to run AI models completely on-device.

Its premium dual ISPs enable amazing 12MP photos and 6MP video capture directly from your glasses. Camera enhancements include improved low-light image quality and image stabilization to capture memorable visuals with vivid clarity and colors. The chipset is powered by the 3rd generation Qualcomm Hexagon NPU and can run small language models (SLMs) completely on the glass to enable access to a personalized AI assistant or real-time translation without needing to be connected to a smartphone. The AR-grade engine for Visual Analytics enhances the image and audio quality to ensure life-like memory capture.

As per Qualcomm, this latest chip is 26% smaller than the previous generation and features optimized power management for slimmer, battery-efficient smart glasses. With an Advanced Process Node and an Optimized Package, smart glasses powered by Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 blend smart and style. Users can enjoy seamless sharing and streaming directly from glasses with Qualcomm FastConnect WiFi 7 and support for Bluetooth 5.3 and 5.2 wireless technology along with increased memory.

Support for 8 microphones and AI-powered targeted capture enable crystal clear audio and video capture and the Qualcomm Noise and Echo Cancellation allows clearer calls. It arrives with support for single or double-lens displays, 3DoF and 1280×1280 resolution per eye @60fps, notifications and alerts.
