Several WhatsApp Accounts Temporarily Placed Under Review
According to the reports shared online, several WhatsApp users found their accounts placed under review on the 3rd of August 2026. The issue was reported by users in India as well as a few other regions.
Affected users were unable to access their chats, make calls, or use other features available on the instant-messaging platform. Many users also claimed that they had not received any prior warning or a clear explanation regarding why their accounts had been flagged.
Users whose accounts were affected saw an “Account in review” message inside the application. The notice stated that WhatsApp was checking their account activity and device information to ensure that they complied with its Terms of Service. Users were also informed that they would typically be notified about the outcome within 24 hours.

Responding to the issue, a WhatsApp spokesperson told news agency PTI that the company continuously works to identify and ban accounts that attempt to misuse the platform. However, the spokesperson acknowledged, “Sometimes we get this wrong,” adding that WhatsApp tries to restore access as quickly as possible when legitimate accounts are mistakenly restricted.
The exact reason behind several accounts being placed under review at the same time has not been revealed. WhatsApp has also not confirmed whether the issue was caused by an error in its automated account-detection systems or another technical problem.
Alongside the account-review issue, some users also reported that they were unable to send media files such as images, videos, and stickers. However, Meta has not confirmed whether the media-sharing problem was connected to the account restrictions.
