WhatsApp unveiled ‘Communities’ on Thursday (April 14) to deliver a plethora of new features to the messaging platform that will improve the way we communicate with our friends and families.
WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, wrote in a blog post that the messaging platform has remained focused on how it can assist people have the next best thing to an in-person discussion when they want to communicate to an individual or a group of friends or family since its launch in 2009.
“We also frequently hear from people who are using WhatsApp to communicate and coordinate within a community,” Meta said, adding that “Communities on WhatsApp will enable people to bring together separate groups under one umbrella with a structure that works for them.”
Feature of WhatApp Communities :
- WhatsApp users will soon be able to form communities on the platform. According to a report by PTI, all groupings representing a set of communities, such as schools, residential societies, and friends at various locations, can be organised under the Communities section.
- Administrators of WhatsApp Groups will now be allowed to delete any messages posted by any participants at any moment. The conversation will be hidden from all group members once it is erased.
- In a group voice call, WhatsApp will now allow up to 32 individuals to participate. A video call on the social media platform can now only be joined by a maximum of five persons.
- WhatsApp users will be allowed to transfer larger files of up to 2 gigabytes, up from the current limit of 1 gigabyte, on the messaging app. “To make it easier for people to collaborate on projects, we’re expanding file sharing to support files up to 2 terabytes,” it stated.
- WhatsApp has been experimenting with different reactions for a long time. The messaging platform has finally chosen to make the feature available. “Emoji reactions are coming to WhatsApp,” Meta wrote in a blog post, “so people can swiftly convey their opinion without filling chats with fresh texts.”
