iPhone 18 Pro Max Tipped to Get Heavier and Thicker Due to Larger Battery Capacity
We recently covered the news about the battery capacity of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series being listed on China’s 3C certification database, which kind of revealed that Apple is choosing to increase the battery capacity for its Pro and Pro Max models in the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
However, with the increased battery capacity, a weight and thickness trade-off has now been tipped by well-known tech analyst and tipster Ice Universe. He has made a statement via his official X profile, claiming that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max’s overall weight has been increased to 240 grams, while its thickness is tipped to be around 9mm. The main reason highlighted by him is the increased battery capacity.

If we compare this newly leaked information with that of its predecessor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is said to weigh around 231 to 233 grams, while its thickness is 8.75mm. So, if this new tip turns out to be true, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may arrive slightly heavier and thicker than the previous-generation model.
Speaking more about the battery capacity, the iPhone 18 Pro Max China version, as per the 3C certification details, is said to see an 11.78% increase in battery capacity, whereas the US version is expected to see a 9.41% increase when compared with its pedecessor. This would mean that a roughly 3% increase in the overall weight and about 2.86% increase in thickness could be expected.
Currently, Apple has not confirmed any of these details yet. However, as per rumours, Apple may launch the iPhone 18 Pro series in September, while the vanilla iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 are both expected to launch in Q1 2027.
Since the battery capacity increase may result in a heavier and thicker body, it would be interesting to see how users react to this possible change once the device officially arrives.
Stay tuned for more updates.
