OnePlus Plans to Evolve its Alert Slider into a New Customizable Button, Shares CEO Pete Lau

Ever since the debut of the OnePlus 2 / OnePlus Two of 2015, the Alert Slider has been a fan-favorite and identity feature of OnePlus smartphone devices, and taking it away from the 2022-released OnePlus 10T has already made the brand realize how important it is for the brand and its users. With a vision of making the Alert Slider perform even more, and while retaining its primary function of changing sound profiles, OnePlus plans to bring a new Customizable Button on its future smartphones.
Here’s more about the update.
OnePlus to Bring a New Customizable Button in Future Smartphone Models
In a blog post shared on the OnePlus Community website by the Co-Founder and CEO of the brand – Peta Lau, it has been announced that taking the long time requests of OnePlus fans, the Alert Slider is evolving into a new Customizable Button, enabling users to have a physical button that adapts to their personalized needs.
It is understood that as the Alert Slider is a hardware switch designed for a particular function, it cannot be customized in any ways, so the best option is to bring a new button that lets users customize it as per the needs and requirements, at the same time also serve the function of the Alert Slider, enabling users to seamlessly change the sound profile from normal, mute, to vibrate-only modes. So, the New Customizable Button does not replace the Alert Slider, but evolves it with better functionality.
Nothing about when this new feature will be adapted and which smartphone model will first bring it haven’t been shared yet, but OnePlus invites feedback from users understanding that the change could be hard as the Alert Slider still and always has a special place for OnePlus users. However, the brand believes that this is the right approach to follow.
So far, the comments and feedback from OnePlus users are mostly against the idea of a new Customizable Button instead of the Alert Slider, and many propose that adding an additional button without taking away the Alert Slider would have been the right decision.
