Google AI-Based Android Scam Protection Features Against Suspicious Messages and Calls: More Effective in Comparison to iOS

In comparison, iOS users reported that scams were frequent on the devices – 65% more when compared to Android phones and 136% more when compared to Pixel phones. On the other hand, Android and Pixel users mentioned that their devices’ scam protection features were 20% and 150% more effective than iOS.
Speaking more, Counterpoint Research adds that the most number of AI-powered scam protection features are offered on Android and with respect to Pixel, Samsung, Motorola, and iPhone devices, Android offers scam protection in ten areas (email protection, browsing protection, on-device behavioral protection), while iOS only offers it in two categories.
On the scam and fraud protection evaluation conducted by the Leviathan Security Group on smartphones like the Apple iPhone 17, Motorola Razr+ 2025, Google Pixel 10 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Android offered the highest level of default scam and fraud protection capabilities. Notably, robust call screening, scam detection, and real-time scam warning were noted to be key capabilities on Android smartphones.
About the working of Android’s protection features, for messages, Google Messages is made capable in automatically filtering out spams and this is done by analyzing the sender reputation as well as the message contents. Suspicious messages are also moved directly to ‘Scam or Blocked’ automatically. Analysis of conversational scams and providing real-time warnings are also added features. For phone calls, known scam calls are blocked and Call Screen will be able to answer on behalf of users. Again, Scam detection will provide real-time warnings too during calls.
Apart from these, real-time app scanning in Google Play Protect and enhanced Safe Browsing in Chrome (with the help of LLMs) are among the other security features on Android.
