Telegram Temporary Ban in India

As the retest is now over, several users are still confused as to when the Telegram app will be available again in India. Since the temporary ban is in effect till today, that is 22nd June 2026, it is likely that the app will be accessible again starting tomorrow, 23rd June 2026. However, Telegram’s message editing feature will remain disabled till 30th June 2026.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov had publicly criticised the ban, stating that it penalised ordinary users even though the exam leaks had already been shared elsewhere. Telegram had also moved the Delhi High Court against the temporary ban, seeking relief from the restriction.

However, the Delhi High Court declined to interfere with the government’s order. Justice Tejas Karia held that the government had followed due process before imposing the temporary restriction, and also observed that the Centre was empowered under Section 69A to block access to the messaging platform.

As of now, users may have to wait till 23rd June 2026 for Telegram services to resume in India, while the message editing feature is expected to remain unavailable till 30th June 2026.
