New updates rolling out for YouTube Shorts; Clear Screen Mode, 2x playback speed and more

Many users enjoy watching YouTube Shorts, especially when they don’t have time to stream the long-duration videos or just want to watch some fun shorts on the go. To further enhance the user experience, the company is introducing some new updates for YouTube Shorts based on the feedback received from viewers.
Here are the details.
YouTube Shorts: New updates
New Clear Screen Mode
This feature temporarily hides all icons and text from your playback video to remove the clutter and give an immersive or distraction-free view of the content. This will allow users to watch a video without overlays getting in the way.
Watch shorts as per your preference
- You can now double the playback speed on a Short to absorb information more quickly or find your favourite part faster.
- For moments when you can’t have the volume on, you can now easily mute by tapping the screen to pause, then tapping the mute icon to silence the audio.
- For more control, you also have the option to set the Shorts timer (including to zero).
Ways to curate your feed
The company is replacing the thumbs-up icon with the ❤️icon to like YouTube Shorts, giving a more personal touch. The dislike button is also being discontinued; instead, YouTube is relying on “Not Interested” and “Don’t recommend this channel” options to more accurately turn your feed and serve up content that you will love.
These options will allow YouTube to better understand your genuine preferences. Though you can still report a video if you believe it may violate YouTube’s community guidelines.
Availability
Starting 25th June, users will see these updates rolling out over time to the Shorts player.
