Tor Browser 15.0 – Released and Now Available
With the newly-released Tor Browser 15.0, The Tor Project has reviewed as well as addressed many bugs (around 200 in number), and these changes have been integrated onto the new browser version. These bug fixes will be ensuring both privacy and security for its users, and the issues that had previously affected privacy and security have been eradicated.
Speaking more about the changelogs, on the desktop version, Vertical Tabs, Tab Groups, and Unified Search Button (in the address bar) have been brought. With Vertical Tabs, users will be able to stack tabs to a sidebar, while the Tab Groups function will allow users to organize tabs into name, color-coded, and collapsible groups. The Unified Search Button has been brought for privacy-conscious power users, researchers and more.
Coming to the mobile version, screen lock and automatic tabs lock are two of the new changelogs. The screen lock will be providing an extra layer of security for browsing sessions, whereas the automatic tabs lock functionality will lock the tabs automatically when users switch away. With the automatic tabs lock functionality, even if someone gains temporary access, they won’t be able to open the locked tabs.
To note, updates to Android and Linux device compatibility, and WebAssembly disabling (now being managed by NoScript), are two other things that are changing, and users downloading the Tor Browser must also keep in mind that it still has a few issues (on both desktop and app versions).
About its availability, the Tor Browser 15.0 is made available on the Tor Browser download page and the distribution directory.
