To Promote Diversity, Apple Adds New Emojis in it’s Latest Update

In the upcoming iOS 14.5 update, Apple is adding new emojis from the Unicode Consortium’s Emoji 13.1 release. Totally, 217 emojis have been added to the new update. These new emojis aim to promote diversity as they have incorporated a blend of new skin tones.

These additions are made in the most common and often used emojis such as the “couples kissing”, “couples with heart”; they will after this update will be available in more skin tones to make it more relevant for users and add a personalised touch too rather than using a generalised emoji. Additionally, bearded emojis now too have more skin tones. There is also a new option for a bearded woman.

Apart from the new diversified emojis, there are new additions too such as the “Exhaling Face,” “Face with Spiral Eyes,” “Face in Clouds”, “Heart on Fire” and “Mending Heart.” Considering the current situation, a change has been made in the syringe emoji as well. Additionally, the standard headphones emoji is been replaced with an identical emoji, but instead of headphones, they have the recently-launched Airpods Max.
