And this is not only about knowingly false information about the use of the Russian armed forces – the information war is much larger than it might seem at first glance, ”Sergey Boyarsky, secretary of the St. Petersburg branch of United Russia, explained the decision to launch the bot. 

Shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the State Duma passed a law introducing criminal liability under article 207.3 of the Criminal Code for disseminating “false information” about the actions of the Russian army, which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. Later, responsibility was extended for “fake news” about the actions of any Russian authorities abroad. At the same time, administrative and criminal articles were introduced on the “discredit” of the armed forces.

On April 20, the head of the Agora human rights organization, Pavel Chikov, said that 32 cases had been opened in a month and a half under the article on “fake” about the army. More than 600 protocols have already been drawn up under the administrative article on “discrediting” the armed forces.
