OpenAI Officially Unveils Sora- An AI Video Generator For OpenAI Plus And Pro Users

Back in February this year, Open AI introduced Sora as a research preview. Sora is basically an AI model that can create realistic videos from text. Today this model is officially unveiled to the public as announced by Sam Altman.

The company has developed a new version of Sora called Sora Turbo, which is said to be faster than the model showcased in February. Sora Turbo is being released at Sora.com to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users.

With Sora, users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, up to 20 seconds long, and in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios. You can bring your assets to extend, remix, and blend or generate entirely new content from text. There are new interfaces as well that make it easier to prompt Sora with text, images, and videos while the storyboard tool lets you precisely specify inputs for each frame. There are also Featured and Recent feeds that are constantly updated with creations from the community.

There are a few limitations and safeguards as well-

Sora often generates unrealistic physics and struggles with complex actions over a long duration. The company is working to make this technology affordable for users. To ensure transparency Sora Sora-generated videos come with C2PA metadata, that can be used to verify the origin of the video.

Safeguards added include- visible watermarks by default, an internal search tool to verify if content came from Sora, blocking child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes while uploads of people will be limited at launch, but the company plans to roll out this feature to more users as they refine deepfake mitigations.

Sora Availability And Subscriptions

Sora is included as part of the Plus account at no additional cost. Plus users can generate up to 50 videos at 480p resolution or fewer videos at 720p each month. The Pro plan includes 10x more usage, higher resolutions, and longer duration. With Pro plan users get 500 fast generations (or fewer at high resolution) and unlimited in a slower generation mode.

Sora is available in many countries but not in most of Europe and the UK for now.
