Claude for Financial Services Capabilities Expanded With Excel Add-In, New Connectors, and Pre-Built Agent Skills
The Claude for Excel that is among the new capabilities is released as a beta version for research preview, and it will let users directly work with Claude in a sidebar on Microsoft’s Excel. With this capability, Claude will be able to read, analyze, modify, as well as create new Excel workbooks. Notably, every action that Claude takes will be transparent, and users will have or get an idea about it. As of now, only Max, Enterprise, and Teams users can access the beta version, and after collecting feedback from 1,000 initial users, a broader roll-out can be expected.

As already known, connectors are what provide AI assistants like Claude the option to directly access external tools and platforms. After adding connectors like S&P Capital IQ, Daloopa, Morningstar, and PitchBook, more new connectors like Aiera (for real-time earnings call transcripts, summaries of investor events, data feed from Third Bridge), Chronograph (for portfolio monitoring, performance metrics, valuations, and fund-level data), Egnyte (for searching permitted internal data rooms, investment documents, and approved financial models), LSEG (for connecting to live market data like fixed income pricing, equities, foreign exchange rates, and more), Moody’s (for proprietary credit ratings, research, and company data), and MT Newswires (for access to global multi-asset class news).
Following the introduction of Agent Skills early this month, six more new skills have also been added now. These include the comparable company analysis (with valuation multiples and operating metrics), discounted cash flow models (with full free cash flow projections, WACC calculations, scenario toggles, and sensitivity tables), Due Diligence Data Packs (which will process data room documents into Excel spreadsheets carrying information), Company Teasers and Profiles (which will condense company overviews for pitch books and buyer lists), Earnings Analyses (to research quarterly transcripts and financials), and Initiating Coverage Reports (with industry analysis, company deep-dives, and valuation frameworks).
Claude is already being used in leading companies dealing with banking, asset management, insurance, and financial technologies. Assistance in front office (~ client experience), middle office (~ underwriting, risk, and compliance), and back office (~ code modernization and legacy processes) tasks are also being provided by Claude. With the new capabilities, users will be able to perform better using Claude and its tools.
