Few days back, we at The Tech Outlook had reported that Vivo was likely to launch two new smartphones under its G-series, which by the way is meant for the brand’s offline market in China. Now, the two smartphones have finally been unveiled in the Chinese market and just as we had predicted via their previous Google Play Console listing, both devices offer the same specifications and are rebranded versions of the already-launched Vivo Y500s smartphone.
The two newly-launched Vivo G-series smartphones are the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z.

Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z Launched in China
As mentioned, Vivo has now launched the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z smartphones in its home market in China. Both smartphones arrive with the same spec sheet and are aimed at the offline market. The devices also share the same design language, same model number, same battery, same processor, same camera setup, and same pricing.
Speaking more, the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z come with the equipment model number “V2531A” and carry the license number “02-B220-253548”. The smartphones come with a few highlighted features such as a 6-year long-life battery, 5-star drop and shock resistance certification, and IP68 + IP69 waterproof certification.
Based on the overall specifications of the two smartphones, there is no major difference between the newly-launched Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z devices. Both smartphones offer the same processor, same display, same camera specs, same battery, same charging feature, same storage options, same durability ratings, and same pricing.
Vivo G5i 5G – Feature
Firstly, both the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z are powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. It is an octa-core chipset based on a 4nm process and has a primary clock speed of 2.2GHz. The chipset is paired with the Adreno 613 GPU. In terms of storage, the two devices come with LPDDR5 dual-channel RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, which is a good addition for smartphones placed in this segment.
Coming to the display, both devices feature a 6.75” LCD display with a 1570 x 720 pixels resolution. The screen supports up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. However, HDR is not supported on the two devices. The display also offers a 1500:1 contrast ratio, 83% NTSC color saturation, and 256 PPI pixel density.
Regarding the camera specs, both the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z come with a single 50MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. The rear camera supports autofocus and up to 10x digital zoom. At the front, both smartphones have an 8MP selfie camera with an f/2.05 aperture and 2x digital zoom support. Do note that image stabilization is not supported, while video recording goes up to 1080P resolution.
One of the main highlights of the two smartphones is their large 7200 mAh battery. Vivo mentions that the devices use a single-cell battery design with a typical capacity of 7200 mAh and a rated capacity of 7060 mAh. The devices support 44W flash charging, along with OTG reverse charging. Wireless charging, however, is not supported.
As far as durability is concerned, both the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z arrive with a 5-star drop and shock resistance certification. They also come with IP68 + IP69 waterproof certification, which gives them added protection against water and dust. The two devices also support NFC, infrared remote control, stereo dual speakers, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Face Wake facial recognition.
The Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z are available in the same memory options. The 6GB + 128GB variant is priced at CNY 2,199, while the 8GB + 256GB variant carries a price tag of CNY 2,899. Both smartphones are being offered in a single Obsidian Black color option.
So as mentioned, the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z have been launched as two identical G-series smartphones for the Chinese offline market. Since both offer the same specifications and pricing, there is practically no difference between the two devices in terms of hardware. Also, just as we had predicted earlier via their Google Play Console listing, the two smartphones have now arrived as rebranded versions of the already-launched Vivo Y500s smartphone.
