The World Health Organization (WHO) determined on Saturday that monkeypox is not currently a global health emergency, despite WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’s statement to the contrary.
Tedros stated that the monkeypox epidemic is a developing public health problem that he and his colleagues at the WHO Secretariat are constantly monitoring. Tedros expressed his serious worry about this issue.
The epidemic is not yet a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, according to WHO, despite their being some disagreements among the committee members (PHEIC).
According to WHO, there have been more than 3,200 confirmed cases of monkeypox in 48 countries where it is not typically transmitted, along with one fatality, in the previous six weeks.
The director general of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, expressed his worries and stated that he has determined that the worldwide monkeypox epidemic constitutes a public health emergency of international concern for all of the aforementioned reasons.
