YouTube reports that its creative ecosystem contributed over $55 billion to the US GDP in 2024 and supported more than 490K full time-jobs

YouTube- the platform that has been a source of entertainment, educational and cultural content for a number of users, has also become a great way for creators to connect to a wider audience and earn money for their videos.

Yesterday YouTube shared a report about its impact on the US last year. In the report, it is revealed that, according to research by Oxford Economics, YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed over $55 billion to the US GDP in 2024 while the platform has also supported more than 490,000 full-time jobs in the US.

This result shows that YouTube’s creative ecosystem has jumped by 100,000 jobs and $20 billion when compared with the 2022 report, in which Oxford Economics estimated that YouTube’s creative ecosystem contributed over $35 billion to the US GDP and supported more than 390K full-time equivalent US jobs.

The creative ecosystem not only includes creators but also anyone who works with creators, like video editors, assistants, and publicists, as well as people who work for creator-oriented companies.

It is also revealed that through the YouTube Partner Program, creators can earn 55% of ad and subscription revenue. Further, the report also highlights the diversity of YouTube, as per the research by Oxford Economics,92% of viewers reported using YouTube to gather information and knowledge and 90% of teachers who use YouTube reported that they have used YouTube content in their lessons and/or assignments while 79% of SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses) who use YouTube agreed that YouTube is essential to their business growth.
