BOE and Vivo Launch Polar Star Joint Laboratory for Display Technology Research

BOE and the Chinese consumer electronics maker – Vivo have officially opened the Polar Star Joint Laboratory on the 5th of June 2026. Additionally, this new laboratory will be focusing on frontier display technology, product quality control, and user experience research.

BOE x Vivo Polar Star Joint Laboratory Officially Opened to Focus on Frontier Display Technology and User Experience Research
For BOE and Vivo, the opening of the Polar Star Joint Laboratory marks another step forward in their long-term partnership, which has already continued for more than ten years. Speaking more, BOE Senior Vice President and CTO Liu Zhiqiang, and Vivo Device Development General Manager Mei Xing were also present at the opening ceremony of this newly-opened joint laboratory.
As part of this collaboration, Vivo will be providing consumer experience data and product requirements, while BOE will be making use of its display production lines and R&D platform.
About the joint research areas, the Polar Star Joint Laboratory will be focusing on colour accuracy, brightness management, low-reflection image quality, true 10-bit image layering, and shadow-dragging optimisation for high refresh rates. Additionally, both BOE and Vivo will also be establishing aligned quality evaluation standards, while module and system compatibility testing, along with multi-scenario simulations, will also be carried out.
In the coming days, the newly-opened Polar Star Joint Laboratory will also be conducting research on foldable displays, narrow bezels, transparent screens, and high refresh rate ergonomics.
