Among the latest innovations is a 6.32-inch display that offers an ultra-high 240Hz refresh rate.

Tianma 6.32-inch AMOLED display with ultra-high 240Hz refresh rate

The 6.32-inch full-screen AMOLED display comes with a 0.35mm ultra-narrow bezel and integrates a 240Hz refresh rate with a dual-track pixel driving architecture to overcome the traditional trade-off between speed and precision.

By separating data writing and TFT threshold compensation, the design enables stable and accurate pixel driving at high refresh rates. Extended compensation time (0.6µs to 6µs) preserves low-grey detail, reduces motion artefacts, and improves image stability. It is revealed to offer a screen-to-body ratio of up to 98.5%.

The development of this panel indicates that mobile OLED development is moving beyond a trade-off between performance and design toward simultaneous advancement of both.

The company has not announced which smartphone brands will be using this panel on their devices, but it is expected that Oppo and OnePlus may be the first to use this ultra-high refresh rate panel.

Stay tuned with The Tech Outlook for the latest tech updates.

The exhibition will take place from 5th May to 7th May at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.

In the exhibition, Samsung will introduce a Wide Color Gamut OLED ‘Flex Chroma Pixel’ and Sensor OLED Display.

Samsung Flex Chroma Pixel

Samsung Display will debut its smartphone OLED technology- Flex Chroma Pixel, which is capable of reaching up to 3000 nits in High Brightness Mode while supporting BT.2020-96 color space.

BT.2020 color space standard is said to offer the widest color gamut- approximately 1.7 times broader than DCI-P3. While most commercially available smartphone displays currently cover around 70% of the BT.2020 standard, Flex Chroma Pixel is said to achieve 96%.

Samsung Display applied phosphorescent sensitised fluorescence (PSF), a next-generation emissive material, to enhance OLED color purity and color reproduction. Flex Chroma Pixel is revealed to secure long lifetime, high brightness, and wide color gamut characteristics by optimising both material performance and optical structure based on Samsung’s OLED technology.

Samsung Sensor OLED Display

The company will also introduce a 6.8-inch smartphone-sized ‘Sensor OLED display’ with 500 PPI resolution, representing a 33% increase compared to the 374 PPI version showcased at Display Week last year, reaching a level comparable to premium smartphones currently on the market.

It integrates OLED elements and Organic Photodiodes (OPD) within the panel through a co-deposition process, enabling the measurement of biometric information such as heart rate and blood pressure by detecting blood flow using light emitted from the display.

This year’s Sensor OLED display further incorporates Flex Magic Pixel (FMP), Samsung Display’s proprietary privacy protection technology, securing sensitive information measured through the display. This implementation modifies the pixel-driving method so that, when

It can charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes and 10% to 97% in 9 minutes (at room temperature), while at -30 degrees Celsius, extreme cold temperature, it charges from 10% to 97% in 12 minutes.

It is said that this second-generation Blade Battery delivers a driving range of up to 1,006 km (621 miles) on the (optimistic) CLCT cycle, an improvement from the ~600km (373 miles) range in the first-generation Blade battery. The new battery would likely mean a 450-mile range if tested on the EPA cycle.

The company has revealed that ten BYD models will be the first to feature this battery. They have already used the battery in two cars in China: the Yangwang U7 equipped with a 150-kWh battery pack is said to achieve a pure electric range of 1,006km, while the fully electric Denza Z9GT have a range of up to 1.036km on the CLTC cycle.

To support ultra-fast charging, BYD has also developed a Flash charger that delivers an output of 1,500kW through a single connector. BYD’s flash charger is the world’s first rail-mounted suspended T-type charger with a zero gravity design. The cable supports the connector, making it feel extremely light and easy to use.

BYD aims to expand its “Flash Charging” network to 20,000 stations by the end of 2026, including 2,000 on highways.

Here is more to it.

Bridgestone’s 3rd Gen Airfree Tyres

Bridgestone has now lifted the curtains from its 3rd Gen prototype of the Airfree Tyres, which brings some key improvements compared to its previous versions. It represents the latest evolution of their non-pneumatic (airless) technology, moving from concept toward social implementation. This generation focuses on advanced simulation technology and structural designs using flexible, high-strength materials to handle various environmental conditions.

Looking at its key features and design, it features a Dynamic Structural Design, evolved from the 2nd generation’s focus on ride comfort, to a structure that uses AI-driven automated learning to optimise shape and control strain appropriately for diverse usage environments. The 3rd Gen Airfree Tyres use the “Empowering Blue” Spokes design, which features an internal spoke structure coloured bright blue to maximise visibility at twilight and in low-light conditions, specifically designed to enhance safety in local community mobility. Instead of air, the tyre uses a unique structure of spokes made from recyclable thermoplastic resin to support the vehicle’s weight and absorb road shocks.

Its demonstration experiments began in Kodaira City, Tokyo, in March 2024 to verify the value of the tyres for “Green Slow Mobility” solutions. However, passenger car users may have to wait a little, as currently Bridgestone is testing the application of these tyres in commercial trucks and ultra-compact electric vehicles (EVs), since professional fleets require high maintenance.

In a press note, the company mentions that the 3rd Gen Airfree tyres are now a key exploratory business in Bridgestone’s 2024–2026 Mid-Term Business Plan, with the company aiming for real-world testing this year.

Today we present new research establishing hard-braking events (HBEs) as a high-density "leading" indicator of road segment crash risk. This suggests HBEs could help identify high-risk road segments & inform specific infrastructure interventions. → https://t.co/4YVX7SmYv5… pic.twitter.com/RvvmoydyGV

An HBE is an instance where a vehicle’s forward deceleration exceeds a specific threshold (-3m/s2), which is interpreted as an evasive maneuver. These HBEs facilitate network-wide analysis. Google Researchers have established a statistically significant positive correlation between the rates of crashes and HBE frequency by combining public crash data from Virginia and Columbia with anonymised, aggregated HBE information from the Android Auto platform.

HBEs as indicators of road segment crash risk

Data density

The researchers analysed 10 years of public crash data alongside aggregated HBE measurements. The analysis of road segments in California and Virginia revealed that the number of segments with observed HBEs was 18 times greater than those with reported crashes.

Statistical validation

To find out whether a high frequency of HBEs causally links to a high rate of crashes, negative binomial (NB) regression models, a standard approach in the Highway Safety Manual (HSM), were employed to account for a higher degree of variance than is typically found in crash data. The model structure controlled for various confounding factors- exposure, infrastructure, and dynamics.

The results demonstrated a significant association between HBE rates and crash rates across both states. Road segments with higher frequencies of hard braking consistently exhibited higher crash rates. The regression analysis also quantified the impact of specific infrastructure elements.

High-risk merge identification

The researchers also examined a freeway merge segment in California to visualise the practical application of this metric. The historical data indicate that this segment has an HBE rate approximately 70 times higher than the average California freeway, and averages a crash every six weeks for a decade.

While analysing the connected vehicle data for this location, it was found that it ranked in the top 1% of all road segments for HBE frequency.

This case study validated HBEs as a reliable proxy capable of identifying high-risk locations even in the absence of long-term collision history.

Real-world application & Future work

The Mobility AI team at Google Research is working with the Google Maps platform to externalise these HBE datasets as a part of the Roads Management Insights offering.

Google Researchers are currently investigating mechanisms to spatially cluster homogeneous road segments to reduce data sparsity even further. Addressing these limitations will enable the transition from risk identification to targeted engineering, where high-density data informs specific infrastructure interventions.

As mentioned, the Trainium3 AI chip has now been brought out by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and this state of the art 3nm chipset is used to power the Trainium3 UltraServers, combined with the brand’s networking tech. In terms of performance, up to 4.4x higher performance is being offered, as well as 4x more memory bandwidth. In comparison to the previous Trainium2 UltraServers, 4x better performance-per-watt is also being claimed on it. Also, the UltraServer (each) will be able to host 144 chips (362 FP8 PFLOPS) as per the brand, and over 1 million Trainium3 chips can be linked together in the UltraClusters – which is 10x times more than the previous generation.

Speaking more, the Trainium-based systems are said to cut down the training and inference costs by around 50% when compared to other GPU clusters that are used on large models. Furthermore, 2x more computing performance and 40% more energy efficiency are also notable aspects, which assure both faster training and peak AI app delivering demand. Thus, it is pointed out to be a better and cheaper alternative to the NVIDIA GPUs.

Already customers like Anthropic, LLM Karakuri, Decart, and SplashMusic have been making use of the latest Trainium3 AI chip, and Amazon states that these brands were able to lower their inference costs. The goal for Amazon is not just to make systems that consume less, but that also offers lower costs for its customers too.
