— OpenAI (@OpenAI) April 30, 2026

Advanced Account Security

This setting is designed for people at increased risk of digital attacks, as well as for those who want the strongest account protections available. It brings together a set of heightened security measures that help safeguard against account takeover while making those protections easier to activate in one place. Once enrolled, Advanced Account Security protects users in Codex as well.

OpenAI wants to ensure users understand that the increased protection of Advanced Account Security comes with an increased responsibility for account recovery.

How does Advanced Account Security work?

Stronger sign-in methods- Advanced Account Security requires passkeys or physical security keys while disabling password-based login, helping make phishing-resistant sign-in the default for people who need it most.

More secure account recovery- Advanced Account Security disables email and SMS recovery (if a user’s email account or phone number is compromised) and requires stronger recovery methods: backup passkeys, security keys, and recovery keys. Because account recovery is restricted to these more secure methods, OpenAI Support will not be able to assist with account recovery for users enrolled in Advanced Account Security.

Shorter sessions and clearer session management- Sign-in sessions are shortened to reduce the window of exposure if a device or active session is compromised. Users also receive alerts when someone logs in to their account, and they can review and manage active sessions across the devices they’re signed in to.

Automatic training conclusion- People working with especially sensitive information may opt not to have those conversations used for model training. With Advanced Account Security enabled, that preference is automatic.

OpenAI has partnered with Yubico (a leader in hardware-based authentication and account protection) to offer its users preferred pricing on a customised bundle of best-in-class security keys. The YubiKey C Nano is designed to stay in the user’s laptop for simple, low-friction daily authentication, and the YubiKey C NFC for backup, and use across laptops and mobile devices. The bundle will be available to all eligible users in their security settings on the web, so more people can adopt stronger, phishing-resistant account protection.

Users will also be able to use any other FIDO-compliant security key or use software-based passkeys.

Individual members of Trusted Access for Cyber accessing OpenAI’s most cyber-capable and permissive models will be required to enable Advanced Account Security beginning June 1, 2026. Organisations with trusted access can, as an alternative, attest that they have phishing-resistant authentication as part of their single sign-on workflow.

Availability

OpenAI users who want additional protection can enrol in Advanced Account Security on the web. The Advanced Account Setting is available to opt into in the Security section of users’ ChatGPT accounts on the web. Protection applies to both ChatGPT and Codex accounts that are accessed through that login.

Gemini rolling out to cars with Google built-in

Whether you are craving a specific food or a scenic spot, just tell Gemini what you are looking for. Gemini will reference information from Google Maps to find options, while you can also ask follow-up questions. Relevant, real-time updates about your journey from Google Maps empower you to make informed decisions and drive with confidence.

Users can even ask Gemini to summarise their text messages and send a response. You can even create a perfect vibe inside the car by telling Gemini which song to play.

Apart from this, Gemini Live is in beta. Just tap the Gemini Live button from the overlay or say, “Hey Google, let’s talk” to start a free-flowing conversation. With Gemini Live, you can learn about your destination or brainstorm activities.

Google has also worked closely with automakers to integrate Gemini deeply with your vehicle’s systems. You can ask questions about your car and get answers tailored to your specific car model because Gemini draws directly from manufacturer-provided owner’s manuals. You can get real-time EV insights.

Availability

The rollout will start with English in the US and continue over the coming months. Eligible users who are signed into their Google Account in their car will see the option to upgrade to Gemini.

Once upgraded, access Gemini by saying, “Hey Google,” tapping the mic on the home screen or using your steering wheel button. In the near future, Gemini will expand to more languages and countries and give drivers the ability to safely access their info in apps like Gmail, Calendar and Google Home.

OneDrive: New updates

Agentic AI for files in SharePoint document libraries

New capabilities are introduced that help organisations capture shared context, create reusable skills for multi-step workflows, and generate documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and other structured outputs from content already stored in SharePoint.

AI experiences at work in OneDrive

With the Copilot icon in OneDrive, you can instantly summarise documents, presentations, PDFs, and images, ask questions about your files, compare versions to spot what changed, recap meeting recordings, and extract key details from whiteboard images. Across capabilities like PDF review on the web, OCR on mobile, semantic search, and Ask Copilot in File Explorer, AI is helping users get to the right content faster.

Markdown support in OneDrive and SharePoint

Markdown file support is now in OneDrive and SharePoint, making it easier for you to create, view, and edit .md file content alongside the rest of your documents, without leaving your browser.

Review PDFs with Copilot in OneDrive and SharePoint for the web

Copilot is now generally available in the OneDrive and SharePoint PDF Viewer. Select text, right-click, and use AI actions from the context menu. You can also write your own prompt if you have a specific question.

OCR for PDFs in OneDrive mobile

Optional Character Recognition (OCR) is now built into OneDrive for Android and iOS mobile apps to help you reuse information, speed up document workflows, and make content easier to find.

Offline Search on OneDrive mobile

With offline search on iPad, you can quickly find files you’ve made available offline by searching by filename, even without an internet connection.

Semantic Search in File Explorer on Copilot+ PCs

With semantic search on Windows, OneDrive users can now find their files by describing what they’re looking for rather than remembering exact file names, whether those files are stored locally or in the cloud. OneDrive makes this possible by surfacing both semantic photo results and lexical document matches from across your entire OneDrive library, right from File Explorer.

Ask Copilot in File Explorer

With the new Ask Copilot hover icon on File Explorer Home, now available in public preview for Windows Insiders, you can get AI insights on any of your recent OneDrive files.

Hero Links

Coming this summer, Hero Links will make collaboration easier and give you more control with a single, unified experience to both share and manage permissions.

Transfer ownership improvements

Rolling out to general availability in the coming weeks, managers can filter files by share status, move content while retaining existing permissions, and take action using an updated email notice.

Updated document library experience in SharePoint

In SharePoint document library, Custom views and filters are now readily available, and a simplified command bar puts your most-used actions within reach. View customisation, including conditional formatting and metadata-based organisation, lives in a single, streamlined menu.

Sync support for up to 1 million items on Windows

Now in public preview, OneDrive Sync now supports syncing up to 1 million items on Windows devices, helping teams manage large document libraries and shared content at scale without compromising access across devices. This preview requires the OneDrive Insiders ring, additional hardware requirements, and recommended configuration settings. Devices that don’t meet these requirements continue to sync at the existing 300,000-item supported limit with no disruption.

Visual refresh for macOS

A refreshed OneDrive sync experience on macOS, with a redesigned activity center and updated system dialogues that feel native on Mac. Built with technologies like SwiftUI, it aligns with modern macOS Liquid Glass design language and provides a cleaner, more responsive way to check sync status, recent activity, and issues that need attention. A simplified layout surfaces the essentials first, with more detail available when you need it.

File previewer refresh for iOS

With the new file previewer in OneDrive for iOS, users can view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in the app – no downloads required – with Microsoft 365 security and compliance enforced.

OneDrive command to move a local-only folder to OneDrive

You can now right‑click a folder in File Explorer and move the entire folder to OneDrive, preserving its structure and making it easier to back up large sets of files.

Custom OneDrive folder name GPO to help address max path issues

To reduce Windows file path length issues, IT admins can now set a custom name for the local OneDrive sync root folder on users’ devices. Now generally available, this policy lets organisations define a shorter, organisation-specific folder name while keeping the OneDrive experience consistent for users. The display name shown in File Explorer and the OneDrive Activity Center remains unchanged.

File-level archive in SharePoint

File-level archive in Microsoft 365 Archive lets organisations archive individual files in active SharePoint sites, moving inactive content to lower-cost storage without disrupting the site, now in public preview.

Admin policy for expiring “People in your organisation” links

With the new admin policy for expiring “People in your organisation” links, you can now enable your users to collaborate and ensure that access gets cleaned up automatically. Configure expiration timeframes that align with your organisation’s data governance requirements, whether that’s 30 days, 90 days, or a custom period.

Google Earth: New features

Google has expanded its data import capabilities so that users can now securely combine, style, visualise, and share their proprietary data directly in a Google Cloud-based map project.

Shapefiles

Google is expanding support beyond KML, KMZ, and GeoJSON to include Shapefiles. You can now upload a .zip file containing your shapefiles to render both the features and their associated attributes as performant, cloud-native data layers.

The shapefiles feature is essential for a real estate developer or urban planner who needs to import large-scale proprietary data like tax lot, infrastructure, or topographic data to evaluate a site’s suitability and find opportunities.

3D models

Upload, place, and share custom 3D models to see your designs or massings in a real-world context. Starting with support for the GLB file format, Google provides input fields that allow you to accurately position, scale, and rotate your models on the globe. This transforms Google Earth into an interactive stage for custom designs.

Elevation Profiles

Elevation Profile has been added to the measure tool. Simply draw with the measure tool as you always have and see a beautiful new elevation profile display in the inspector panel.

Whether you are tackling complex route and transportation planning, conducting viewshed analysis, or mapping out logistics for heavy machinery, you can now instantly contextualise terrain dips and peaks directly on the map.

Expansion of Digital IDs

Building on its UIDAI partnership, Google has announced that consumers in India can now save their Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials directly in Google Wallet on their device. This new capability creates a secure, digital-first ID and makes it easier to verify identity for everyday conveniences.

The initial set of partners for this feature includes:

PVR Inox- Quickly prove your age for movies and unlock rewards

BharatMatrimony- Match confidently with real people using verified ‘Prime’ profiles

Atyls- Securely auto-fill international visa applications with a single tap

Mygate- Soon, ensure delivery and service staff entering your community are securely verified

Snabbit- Build trust in the gig economy with seamless checks for service providers in the near future

Google is also expanding digital ID features to more countries. People in Singapore, Taiwan and Brazil are now able to create an ID pass, a secure digital ID based on their passport information, and save it in Google Wallet. This will offer a simple and private way to verify identity or age for in-person and online services that require it, like when needed to sign into your accounts.

Essential Voice

Essential Voice turns your speech into clear, ready-to-use writing. Better than a simple transcription, Essential Voice cuts filler words for a more streamlined and considered output. You can use it to send messages and emails, or format your speech straight into lists, steps or bullet points to help get your point across.

You can speak to Essential Voice in more than 100 languages with auto-detection. You can also choose regional variants of languages like English and Spanish. Apart from this, you can speak in one language and have it translated and transcribed for you in real time.

You can say something like “nothing OS”, and a personal mapping would automatically change that to “Nothing OS”. If you have a favourite restaurant, Essential Voice will link an address to the name and type it out in the transcription instantly.

The company has also taken care of your privacy. Essential Voice activates only when you choose to use it, and it does not listen in the background. Once activated, your audio recording is encrypted and processed on Nothing’s server. The generated text is returned to your device and is not stored on its servers.

Availability

The Essential Voice is integrated into the keyboard and the Essential key. It is available on Phone (3). The Phone (4a) Pro will receive the feature later this month, while Phone (4a) will get it in early May.

ChatGPT-5.5

This model is suitable for agentic coding, computer use, knowledge work, and early scientific research. GPT-5.5 matches GPT-5.4 per-token latency in real-world serving, while performing at a much higher level of intelligence. It also requires significantly fewer tokens to complete the same Codex tasks, making it more efficient as well as more capable.

The company has released GPT-5.5 with its strongest set of safeguards to date, designed to reduce misuse while preserving access for beneficial work. GPT-5.5 is more efficient in how it works through problems, often reaching higher-quality outputs with fewer tokens and fewer retries.

On Artificial Analysis’s Coding Index, GPT 5.5 delivers state-of-the-art intelligence at half the cost of competitive frontier coding models. On Terminal Bench 2.0 (tests complex command-line workflows), it achieves a state-of-the-art accuracy of 82.7%. On SWE-Bench Pro (evaluates real-world GitHub issue resolution), it reaches 58.6%, solving more tasks end-to-end in a single pass than previous models. On Expert-SWE, GPT 5.5 also outperforms GPT-5.4.

The model’s coding strengths show up especially clearly in Codex, where it can take on engineering work ranging from implementation and refactors to debugging, testing, and validation. Senior engineers who tested the model said GPT 5.5 was noticeably stronger than GPT-5.4 and Claude Opus 4.7 at reasoning and autonomy, catching issues in advance and predicting testing and review needs without explicit prompting.

In Codex, GPT-5.5 is better than GPT-5.4 at generating documents, spreadsheets, and slide presentations.

In ChatGPT, GPT-5.5 Thinking unlocks faster help for harder problems, with smarter and more concise answers to help you move through complex work more efficiently. It excels at professional work like coding, research, information synthesis and analysis, and document-heavy tasks, especially when using plugins.

In GPT-5.5 Pro, early testers are seeing a significant step up in both difficulty and quality of work ChatGPT can take on, with latency improvements that make it much more practical for demanding tasks.

GPT-5.5 also shows gain on scientific and technical research workflows, which require more than answering a hard question. This model was co-designed for, trained with, and served on NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 NVL72 systems. GPT-5.5 is an incremental but important step towards AI that can solve some of the world’s toughest challenges, like cybersecurity. For this model, OpenAI designed tighter controls around higher-risk activity, sensitive cyber requests, and added protections for repeated misuse.
