Yesterday, Truecaller introduced the Truecaller Lite standalone app in India. This app is aimed at Android smartphones that operate with limited storage and system memory.
Truecaller Lite
The app occupies approximately 10MB of storage, and it is engineered to run on devices equipped with up to 4GB of RAM.
Truecaller Lite is not a stripped-down build of the primary application but rather an independently developed native Android app built specifically for lower-tier hardware specifications. The app connects to the same underlying database, fraud-detection infrastructure, and privacy protocols as the standard version.
Truecaller Lite app key highlights:
- Displays caller identities prior to answering incoming calls
- Filters unsolicited and fraudulent calls utilising reports from the global user network
- Consolidates call logs, contacts, and directory search within a single interface
- Provides caller identity summaries following Incoming and Outgoing calls
Functionalities such as in-app messaging, voicemail, Family Protection and the AI-powered assistant that are included in the standard app are not present in the Lite app, allowing it to focus strictly on calling and spam prevention. The features are excluded to maintain reduced memory overhead, data usage, and storage requirements.
Availability
The app is currently available for free on the Google Play Store in India for compatible Android devices with up to 4GB of RAM.
