Samsung and SK Hynix have been dominating the DRAM manufacturing market for a long time now, while last month it was reported that South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix overtook Samsung Electronics in market value and has become the most valuable listed company in South Korea.
But the ongoing memory shortage and increasing prices have allowed other manufacturers to make their place in the market. While Samsung and SK Hynix were already reported to be developing the LPDDR6 RAM, it was recently revealed that Chinese manufacturer CXMT will also start mass production of LPDDR6 in the second half of this year.
SK Hynix also seems to be catching up the pace, as a Korean publication, Herald Corp, has shared that the company plans to begin mass production and shipping of LPDDR6 RAM in the second half of 2026.
SK Hynix’s LPDDR6 RAM mass production & shipping
According to the report, the company already completed the development of LPDDR6 in March 2026 and is currently preparing for mass production. SK Hynix has revealed that LPDDR6 is manufactured using a sixth-generation 10nm-class (1c) process, offering improvements in data processing speed and power consumption control compared to its predecessor.
It is also revealed that the company will initially supply LPDDR6 to Xiaomi for its flagship phones, though SK Hynix did not confirm any specific customer information. But since SK Hynix has partnered with Xiaomi for many years, there is a high chance that we may get to see SK Hynix’s LPDDR6 RAM in future Xiaomi devices.
