Wait, what did we just read? Astronauts can now pop a bottle of champagne in space for the first time ever. In some astounding news related to space and science today, reports mentioned a four-year-long research project undertaken that led to the production of a newly developed champagne bottle that meets the standards in space.

Fun facts about the bottle of champagne compliant with space standards are that it is a SPADE-designed bottle and stainless steel and aeronautical grade aluminum combined with glass and cork on it. Interestingly, all rules about gaseous liquids which require all pressure to remain contained in the bottle have been complied with even with a thing such as a bottle of champagne, a concept otherwise related to releasing contained gas while opening its cork.

France’s Maison Mumm came to the rescue and finally, after a sincere collaboration amongst one of the best champagne manufacturing businesses as well as an aeronautics-focused design firm became a dream come alive.

The champagne is named Cordon Rouge Stellar as per a Maison Mumm press release. It will be the first champagne to ever be tasted on future human space flights as well as in space. Surprisingly, full space compliance has been met with the help of a French space agency Centre National d’ Etudes Spatiales.

The process of making it was indeed complex.  It was not only tricky for the brand as they had to meet space standards but also maintain and incorporate the regulatory commission for Champagne and its usual requirements related to its storage.

The champagne encounters the glass bottle interior as well as the stainless steel. These materials were not only used for preservation but also to meet regulatory requirements.
