Several Mobile Users in Delhi Region Receive “Extremely Severe Alerts” Message; Read More About It

A sudden alert on smartphones surprised many users, including me, after their devices started making a loud warning sound. Upon checking, the alert message was found to be from NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority).

NDMA “Extremely Severe Alerts” Message

Many users received an “Extremely Severe Alerts” message on their mobile devices, which read: “This is a test message for Cell Broadcast alert testing in ROHINI, NEW DELHI. No action is required on receipt of this message. NDMA”.

Right after the above message, another flash message was received, stating that India has launched Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology for instant disaster alerting service for its citizens. Furthermore, the message appeared in both English and Hindi languages, and read: ” India, launches Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology, for instant disaster alerting service for its citizens. Alert citizens, safe nation. No action is required from the public upon receipt of this message. This is a test message. – NDMA

भारत द्वारा स्वदेशी तकनीक का उपयोग करते हुए अपने नागरिकों के लिए त्वरित आपदा चेतावनी सेवा हेतु सेल ब्रॉडकास्ट का शुभारंभ। सचेत नागरिक, सुरक्षित राष्ट्र। इस संदेश की प्राप्ति पर जनता से किसी प्रकार की कार्रवाई की अपेक्षा नहीं की जाती है। यह एक परीक्षण संदेश है। – NDMA”

Extreme Severe Alert

Well, nothing to worry about, as these alerts are part of the emergency alert system run by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which is meant to provide real-time emergency information to people. At the moment, there is nothing to worry about this test message, and users can simply tap “OK” to dismiss the alert.
