“Unstoppable trend” for CEO appointments from India : Laxman Narasimhan appointed as CEO of Starbucks
Starbucks’ new CEO, Laxman Narasimhan from India, has been appointed to replace Howard Schultz as the company’s head. The news of Mr Narasimhan’s appointment has the internet in a buzz, and business tycoon Anand Mahindra joined the joy on Twitter. In a tweet, the chairman of the Mahindra Group congratulated Starbucks on the choice of its new CEO and noted how this was an “unstoppable trend” for CEO appointments from India.

Laxman Narasimhan has almost 30 years of expertise managing and giving advice to international brands that cater to consumers. He joined Reckitt as its CEO in September 2019, and according to the Anglo-Dutch global FMCG giant, which owns well-known household brands like Dettol, Lysol, Harpic, Durex, Veet, and Strepsils, he successfully revived the company’s strategy, execution, and fundamental competencies.
Laxman has led challenging operational businesses in the past and motivated teams in mature and developing countries to deliver performance that led the market. Reckitt noted that this, along with his strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, makes him a strong candidate for the position. Laxman graduated from the University of Pune’s College of Engineering with a degree in mechanical engineering. He holds an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania and an MA in German and International Studies from The Lauder Institute at The University of Pennsylvania.
