Both in 2018 and in 2021, Delhi Capitals retained Shreyas Iyer. He snapped up the franchise in 2015 for Rs 2.6 crore. Since then, the Mumbai batter’s stock has soared.
Delhi Capitals reached their first IPL final under Iyer in 2020. After sustaining a shoulder injury in the opening half of IPL 2021, he had to stay away from captaincy duties as Rishabh Pant was backed by Delhi management.
Iyer has scored 2375 runs in 87 IPL matches. Iyer scored at least 400 runs in a season between 2018 and 2022, with his best season coming in 2020 with 519 runs.
A day before the auction, Iyer scored 80 against West Indies in the third one-day international. He is a three-format player for India.
