Flagstar Bank has recently notified 1.5 million of its customer about a cyberattack incident that compromised their personal data. Flagstar is a Michigan-based full-service banking and lending expertise with a distinctive personal focus with assets of $23.2 billion.
According to a source, in December 2021 intruders gained access to the bank’s corporate network, and soon after data breach notification was sent to several customers.
The bank initiated a thorough investigation and found threat actors gained access to customers’ personal information including their full names and social security number.
Flagstar has stated in their notice, “Upon learning of the incident, we promptly activated our incident response plan, engaged external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of incidents, and reported the matter to federal law enforcement.”
They further said, “We have no evidence that any of the information has been misused. nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, we want to make you aware of the incident.”
Reportedly Flagstar is providing a two years program of identity monitoring and protection services to the affected individuals.
According to the information provided by the Office of the Maine Attorney General, the data breach has impacted 1,547,169 people in the States.
