Windows Run Dialog Is Getting a Makeover
In an official release, Microsoft has shared the first look at the new Windows Run dialog window for the Windows 11 operating system, which has remained the same for quite some time now. And it is not just the new UI, but as per what has been revealed, the tool has now been written from scratch to make it open faster. Furthermore, it features a look that matches Windows 11 Fluent Design and fully supports Dark Mode.
Microsoft claims that the new Run dialog can appear on the screen in 94ms after giving the command, down from the current 103ms timing. Adding more to this, it is a C#/WinUI 3 application compiled with dotnet AOT, which ensures native-level performance and safety.
Speaking more, the Browse button, which users see on the current Run dialog box, has been removed. Microsoft states that this is because the button has very low usage, with only 0.0038% of users having clicked it in a sample of 35 million. Furthermore, it will also offer faster user directory access, in which users can now type ~\ to jump to their user directory.
Currently, this feature is rolling out to current Insider builds of Windows as an opt-in feature, and is limited to those in the Windows Insider Experimental Channel, which is a programme meant for testing early features. If you are enrolled in the Windows Insider Experimental Channel, you can access this feature by going to Settings > System > Advanced and toggling the “Run dialog” option.
