Uber drivers in the United States will be able to provide services using Tesla EVs booked from Hertz

By 2023, Hertz plans to provide up to 50,000 electric vehicles to Uber drivers.

Through November 1st, Uber drivers in the United States will be allowed to provide services using Tesla electric vehicles rented from Hertz Global Holdings.

Hertz will supply up to 50,000 electric vehicles to Uber Technologies’ drivers by 2023, according to a statement on the ride-hailing giant’s website, which is no longer available, following a record purchase for 100,000 Teslas earlier this week. Until now, Uber drivers had to supply and maintain their own electric vehicles.

The cars will first be available through Hertz’s rental program in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Washington, DC, with a nationwide rollout following in the coming weeks, according to Uber. This is the largest expansion of electric vehicles on a mobility platform in North America, according to Uber. Hertz’s German representative was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

Automobile rentals
Hertz is shaking up the auto rental business just four months after emerging from bankruptcy, as the company invests heavily in electric vehicles and mobile technologies. The $4.2 billion order from the Florida-based firm pushed Tesla’s market capitalization beyond $1 trillion.

According to the Uber agreement, Tesla rentals will begin at $334 per week and drop to $299 or less as the program begins. To be eligible at first, drivers must have a 4.7-star rating or above and have completed at least 150 trips. — According to Bloomberg
