Indian car sector at its boom as the festive season approaches

In August 2022, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,34,166 vehicles in the domestic market, up 30% year over year. Its sales totalled 1,03,187 units over the same time period the previous year. In August 2022, Hyundai Motor India was able to sell 49,510 vehicles, representing a 5.6% YoY rise.

Tata Motors experienced a staggering 68.3% YoY growth in August 2022, selling 47,166 vehicles. Mahindra was able to sell 29,852 units last month, recording a phenomenal YoY gain of 86.8%. In August 2022, Kia sold 22,322 units in India, representing a rise of 33.2% year over year.

When compared to YoY, all the major automakers reported an increase in domestic sales last month. Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India emerged in second and third place, respectively, while Maruti Suzuki, the largest automaker in India, took the lead. Fourth and fifth place went to Mahindra and Kia, respectively.
