The Chief Minister of Pubjab, Bhagwant Mann was recently admitted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi for a stomach infection. Soon after a video of him drinking polluted water surfaced on the internet. In a video tweeted by Aam Aadmi Party Punjab, the minister could be seen gulping up a glass of water from a river amidst cheers from supporters.

Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, renowned environmentalist and Rajya Sabha MP invited the Chief Minister to participate in the 22nd anniversary of the cleaning of Kali Bein. He also offered him a glass of polluted water of the holy rivulet in Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. The video that surfaced on twitter is from last Sunday, 17 July 2022.

The Minister drank the water that contains sewage waste from towns and villages without any hesitancy. Days later, he faced stomachaches and was admitted to the hospital.

The State Government had announced the launch of a statewide campaign to clean rivers and drains of the state on that same day.

The Chief Minister lauded the efforts made by Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal for cleaning Kai Blein. He said that the historic initiative taken around 20 years back had acted as a catalyst in cleaning the holy rivulet. He mentioned that Guru Nanak used to bath in the rivulet. He asserted that such efforts need to be repeated at mass level to keep the legacy of great gurus alive.
