IPL 2022: The IPL media rights are likely to be sold for a 5-year term (2023-27)

As announced on Tuesday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the governing body for cricket in India, the tender for the media rights for the commercial T20 tournament Indian Premier League from 2023 to 2027 will be released in October. IPL’s governing council made the decision during its meeting on September 28.
According to BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah, the “IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027 will be announced immediately following the announcement of two new IPL teams on 25th October 2021.”

Star India currently holds the media rights for the IPL. In 2017, the company won both television broadcast rights and digital streaming rights worth *16,347.50 crores for a period of five years. Uday Shankar, then the CEO and chairman of Star India, led the aggressive bid for the consolidated global media rights of the IPL.
IPL governing council also decided to play the last two league matches before VIVO IPL 2021 Playoffs concurrently in the ongoing edition. In the league stage of the ongoing season on Sunday, October 8th, instead of two matches being played at 7.30 PM IST, two matches will be played simultaneously at 7.30 PM IST.
