WhatsApp reportedly launches Channel Status for Android and IOS users; Channel admins can share status updates directly within their channels

Till now, WhatsApp users have been sharing status updates that are visible to all their contacts or to the selected contacts as chosen by the user. According to a report by WABetaInfo, users will now be allowed to share status updates directly within their channels.
Previously, this was spotted on the WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.16.10.70 update, but it is now said that WhatsApp has started rolling out the ability to share status updates in channels on iOS and Android.
Status Updates in Channels on Android and iOS
Reportedly, WhatsApp is launching the feature to share status updates to select users and channels. Channel Status is said to work as a broadcast from the channel and can be viewed and shared by anyone who has access to the channel content.
Channel admins can share photos, videos, layouts, and text through Channel Status, while captions can also be included. The updates will disappear after 24 hours, just like normal Status. So this new feature will help admins to publish short-time updates directly from their channel interface.
How to share a channel status?
- Open your channel
- Tap Create Status option
- Choose the content you want to publish
- You can customise the status via the status editor
- Verify which channel the update will be published to (only one channel can be selected at a time)
When a channel shares a new status, it is automatically shown alongside other status updates in the same section. But, only updates from the channels that the user follows will be visible. When followers view a channel’s status, they will see the ‘Channel Status’ label at the top of the interface.
Availability
The feature is said to be available to some users who install the latest WhatsApp for iOS update from the App Store, and it is available to a limited number of Android users who install the latest WhatsApp update from the Google Play Store.
Currently, the feature is not available to everyone, but it is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
