WhatsApp Introduces its New Passkey-Encrypted Chat Backups Feature

Over four years ago, WhatsApp became the very first messaging service to unveil the end-to-end encrypted backups feature and now, building over it, the brand has introduced the new passkey-encrypted chat backups feature as well on the platform. The passkey-enabled encryption capability will be making it much more easier to secure chats than before, and passkeys will allow users to make use of their fingerprint, face, or screen lock to secure and encrypt the chat backups. Thanks to this capability, users from now on won’t have to memorize a 64-digit encryption key or a password. With just a tap or glance, users will be able to make their chat backups safe, private, and accessible.

Regarding the availability, WhatsApp has planned a gradual roll-out over the coming weeks and months. In order to get started with this new feature, users can visit the WhatsApp Settings > select ‘Chats’ > tap on ‘Chat Backup’ > and then ‘End-to-end encrypted backup’ to find the options for this feature.
