YouTube has been introducing new features and enhancements on its platform so that both creators and viewers can connect with each other and enjoy their video streaming experience in a better way.

Today, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has announced that some new updates will be rolling out on YouTube this week.

Gifts and Jewels expansion

Gifts and Jewels are expanding to 45 new countries, including Japan, India, and the UK, to empower creators to diversify their revenue and fans to connect with their favourite creators in easier and more engaging ways.

Gifts are basically animations that viewers can send on creators’ live streams, showing their appreciation, reactions, and expressions in real-time. To send gifts, viewers can buy Jewels in bundles. When viewers use Jewels to send gifts to creators, creators get Rubies, which represent their earnings.

Supervised kid accounts live for families in MENA and Turkiye

Supervised Kid accounts are now live for families in MENA and Turkiye. Introducing parental tools like a custom Shorts feed timer to help manage screen time.

Supervised Kid accounts put parents in the driver’s seat: offering an optional specialised, age-appropriate environment for parents who feel their child is ready to explore more of YouTube, within the main app itself. Such accounts also come with built-in protections that are set by default for all users under 18, like “Take a Break” and “Bedtime” reminders.

Ask YouTube is available on desktop for US users

Ask YouTube, YouTube’s new search experience, is now available on desktop devices in the US.

Ask YouTube helps in exploring complex questions and diving deeper into topics. Ask YouTube responses blend relevant clips, videos and Shorts with helpful text, guiding you quickly to the most useful videos to answer your prompts.

Creators can organise their videos into structured shows, seasons and episodes

Creators in the YouTube Partner Program, who have playlists of high-quality videos that share consistent themes and stories across episodes, can now designate those playlists as shows.

Shows display your playlists as beautifully designed featured series, structured by seasons and episodes. When you designate a series playlist as a show, you will unlock enhanced features like a dedicated show page, organised seasons and episodes, a stunning TV display and more reach for new fans.
