Microsoft 365 Copilot can now be used to summarize OneNote notes

Microsoft OneNote- a digital note-taking app that helps users take notes, research, collaborate, organize lesson plans, create a content library, journal, and voice transcription. Recently Microsoft rolled out the Take Notes with Copilot feature on OneNote for users to gather and create notes using natural language prompts based on users’ Microsoft 365 content directly on Notebook pages.

Now other than taking notes with Copilot, users can also use the Copilot summarize feature in OneNote.

In case the notes are too long and you don’t have much time to go through them you can now summarize your OneNotes with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

To use the summarize feature, follow these steps-

  • Navigate to the page that needs a summary
  • On the Home tab of the ribbon select Copilot. The Copilot pane opens on the right side of OneNote
  • In the Copliot compose box, enter Create a summary of the notes on this page. Focus the summary on the chronological order of events and place the events into bullet points.
  • Select Send arrow

After following these steps, Copilot will create a bulleted list of summaries using transcription and notes, place the summary in the Copilot pane, and cite the sources for its response. This will help the user greatly in going through their notes briefly without missing the key points.
