Meta launches a free badge for people on Facebook called Facebook Verified

To save Facebook users from AI-generated fake accounts, yesterday Meta introduced Facebook Verified, a free badge that verifies there’s a real person behind a profile using a selfie-based verification process.

Facebook Verified

Facebook Verified uses a simple selfie-based process. You record a short video selfie, which Meta checks against your existing profile photos to confirm a match. There is no subscription fee for the feature, and the badge carries across the platform once a user has completed the one-time verification process. Facebook accounts must meet Meta’s trust and safety standards to qualify for verification.

Your badge will appear across places on Facebook like Marketplace, Dating, Groups and Profile to start. Over time, the company will add badges in Feed posts as well.

The Facebook Verified badge means a profile belongs to a real person. It’s a quick, visible signal, before you respond to a listing, accept a date, or join a conversation, that there’s a real person on the other end. This badge does not offer any premium account features.

Eligibility

This badge is available to eligible Facebook users, 18 years or older on Facebook, who are in good standing with Meta’s Community Standards, specifically those prohibiting fraud, scams, and deceptive practices, and who exhibit no evidence of inauthentic behaviour. It is not available for Pages or ProMode accounts.

Availability

Meta is rolling out Facebook Verified in phases, starting in select markets with plans to expand globally.
