New updates for the Google Home app
Modernised camera experience
The camera interface is modernised to provide an improved experience and faster navigation. The key upgrades include:
- Alerts with zoomed-in previews: Automatically focus subjects in event notifications
- Improved navigation: Smoother video scrubbing and more precise camera controls
- Enhanced event list: Scroll through your timeline without choosing the video player
- Refreshed UI
Seamless management across surfaces
- Robust automations and controls: Expanded automation traits now allow to monitor everything from robot vacuums to battery levels with ease.
- Ask Home on web: Coming soon to Public Preview, you will be able to search camera history and create automations from your computer.
- Improved app notifications: Quick action buttons let Public Preview users instantly jump from an alert to the exact device panel, easily switching between properties
The company has also upgraded Gemini for Home users in early access to Gemini 3.1, which features advanced reasoning to better interpret and execute complex, multi-step voice commands. You can now combine different tasks, such as adding new items and updating existing lists, in one breath. Setting alarms and reminders, managing your calendar and controlling your smart home can now handle more complex requests at the outset.
