ColorOS May 2026 Update – Brings Call Identification on WhatsApp and OPPO Dialer Spam Blocking Function
Oppo held a security and privacy interview in Indonesia, where several users revealed that they regularly receive calls from unknown WhatsApp numbers and wanted the system to help flag or block them.
Following this, OPPO has now brought new communication security features with the ColorOS May update, built around the same concern. The first feature is Call Identification on WhatsApp, which adds risk identification and labeling support for unknown incoming calls on WhatsApp. With this feature, unfamiliar callers will be flagged by the system, helping users identify a potential scam or spam risk before they answer the call.
To turn it on, users can go to Phone Manager > Communication security > Call identification. From there, they will have to enable Call identification and turn on support for WhatsApp. Alternatively, users can also go to Settings > Security and privacy > More security and privacy > App call identification, enable App call identification, and then enable the supported app, WhatsApp.

In order for it to work properly, users will have to grant Phone Manager the required permissions, including Contacts access, floating window permission, and Notification permission. In case the contact access is turned off with the features remained enabled, it will screen all incoming calls as it will not be able to tell known contacts from unknown ones. Also, if Notification permission is turned off, alerts and identification results for unknown app calls will not appear.
Apart from third-party apps, ColorOS is also improving spam detection inside the native OPPO Dialer app. In supported regions, OPPO Dialer works with local service providers to recognize and label incoming numbers as spam, telemarketing, suspected scam, and more, so that users can know who is calling before answering the call.
Users can also help improve caller identification by flagging unwanted numbers. For this, they can go to Calls > Select a phone number > Tap the top-right “︙” menu > Flag, and then select the appropriate label.
Furthermore, ColorOS also supports a Caller Identification service. To enable it, users can go to Calls > Top-right “︙” > Settings > Caller Identification. Once enabled, the system will provide online number identification, and when an unknown number calls, it will surface caller information and extra context to help users decide whether to answer or not.
Stay tuned for more updates.
