ChatGPT Go is Now Free for Indian Users for One Year, Existing Paid Users Also Get Extension
OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT Go, the lighter version of ChatGPT, will now be available free for all Indian users for a full 12 months. New users can simply select the 12-month free plan while signing up to get started right away.
At first, there was a bit of confusion among existing paid subscribers, as OpenAI’s initial announcement didn’t make it clear whether the free offer would apply to them too. However, one of our readers shared an email from OpenAI confirming that current ChatGPT Go subscribers will also receive the same 12-month free extension.
The email reads:
“We’ll move your billing date back by 12 months, so you’ll continue getting expanded access to top models, file uploads, and image generation without any action needed from you.”

Starting today, new users can claim the offer, and those who already have an active ChatGPT Go plan are being automatically upgraded for free. While OpenAI hasn’t mentioned how long this promotion will last, anyone interested can still grab the offer while it’s available.
How to get the free ChatGPT Go plan (New Users)
Step 1: Sign up using your email or phone number.
Step 2: After signing up, you’ll see the “What’s on the agenda?” screen. At the top, you’ll notice a banner that says “Upgrade for free.”
Step 3: Tap on “Upgrade for free”, and a new window will appear with the option to switch to ChatGPT Go.
Step 4: You’ll be asked to enter your debit or credit card details. Fill them in — don’t worry, your account won’t be charged until after the 12-month free period ends.
ChatGPT Go is now free for everyone in India — both new and existing users.
