Figma Dev Mode MCP Server Now Available on Visual Studio Code

As mentioned, the Dev Mode MCP server of Figma is now available on Visual Studio Code, and it will allow users to provide more context about how the designs are created and then convert them into codes. Unlike guessing from image files, the MCP server developer tool can get direct access into the design data from Figma, and effectively recreate it. At the same time, by minimizing the work needed to convert or transform the design into codes, LLM usage is also being reduced.

On Visual Studio Code, users can make a selection or copy a URL from Figma, and use the Dev Mode MCP to build from it. Making use of the components and styles on Visual Studio Code, generate the code, thereby recreating the exact design for applications.

Speaking more, in the coming months, Figma plans to release many new Dev Mode MCP server updates which include deeper codebase integrations and remote server capabilities. In related news, the brand will also be rolling out the Figma Sites Code Layers feature on the 12th of June 2025, and users will be provided with AI tools for converting designs into interactive websites too.
