Qualcomm and Iridium together is going to bring the Snapdragon satellite to many premium smartphones, which will allow users to send messages even when a terrestrial cellular network is not available.

Snapdragon Satellite
At the CES 2023, Iridium and Qualcomm has presented their idea to bring the Snapdragon Satellite to many premium smartphones by the mid of 2023. The feature will allow users to tap into a satellite network and send messages even when a terrestrial cellular network is unavailable.
The feature will come on Android smartphones which runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets and has the SD X70 modem. Qualcomm claims that they haven’t made any structural changes to the chipset. Iridium has taken care of the things to implement the new technology to the chipset.
This technology was even demonstrated by Qualcomm and Iridium in the desert outside the Sin City, where a message was sent from the satellite enabled smartphone and the message was received by the recipient within seconds.
The feature which is similar to Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite, will support two way messaging as well, which means, the recipient can send a message back to the satellite enabled smartphone.
