Google Maps introduces AI-powered live lane guidance for cars with Google built-in; Coming first to Polestar 4

Navigating through Google Maps can sometimes be a daunting task, especially when you are on a highway or in high-traffic areas. Many of us must have faced a situation of missing a turn or going in the wrong lane due to this. Well, Google Maps seems to have taken this problem into consideration, as yesterday it officially introduced live lane guidance for cars with Google built in.

Google Maps can now see the road and its lanes like a driver, and provide customized, real-time navigation help. For instance, if you are in the far left lane and your exit is on the right, live lane guidance automatically detects this and uses clear audio and visual cues to remind you to merge in time.

For live lane guidance, Google’s AI in the vehicle analyzes lane markings and road signs as they’re captured by the car’s front-facing camera. This real-time road information is instantly integrated with Google Maps’ powerful navigation capabilities, so you get even more precise guidance alongside the live traffic, ETAs, and alerts you already rely on.

Availability

As officially announced, Live lane guidance is coming first to Polestar 4s in the US and Sweden in the coming months. The feature is said to expand to more road types and cars in partnership with key automakers.
