OpenAI Officially Introduces ChatGPT Atlas as its AI-First Web Browser: Now Available on macOS

The American AI research and deployment company – OpenAI has now officially introduced the ChatGPT Atlas browser. It has also been made available on the macOS operating system.

Here’s more about it.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas – Officially Introduced

As indicated above, the ChatGPT Atlas has been introduced by OpenAI as an AI-first web browser, and it additionally also features a ChatGPT chatbot too for assisting users with various tasks. With AI and all the related capabilities at its core, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas is unique and different from other traditional browsers such as Google’s Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox. But it also has to be noted that just like Perplexity’s new Comet browser, ChatGPT Atlas from OpenAI is also built on Chromium.

About its features, unlike the usual address bar, on ChatGPT Atlas, users will be able to find a search bar via which questions can directly be asked to ChatGPT or they can enter the URL to the site they want to visit there. Users will also be able to access the ChatGPT chatbot via the side panel as well in every tab. Also, the AI-powered search will route every search through ChatGPT, and the new tab page will be able to show its users different search links (for web results, images, videos, and many more).

Context-aware assistance is also a notable feature, and AI will have a context about what its users browse and their activities. Thus, tasks like summarizing an article or drafting an email can all be done by asking. For ChatGPT paid subscribers (Plus, Pro, Business), complex and multi-step actions can be done by ChatGPT on the users behalf. There is also an optional and controllable feature on ChatGPT Atlas called Browser Memories, and it will allow ChatGPT to remember key information and then offer smarter and personalized suggestions.

Inline editing for highlighting texts on the web page and robust privacy controls that provides users with the control to decide what ChatGPT sees and remembers are further features. However, it has also been pointed out that the ChatGPT Atlas can’t automate in-browser testing on localhost, and this is revealed to be a drawback and an opportunity missed by the brand.

Speaking of its availability, currently only macOS users can access OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas and the brand is also inviting feedback. Later, it will also be made available on Windows, iOS, as well as on Android according to the brand’s plan.
