GTA VI Release – Postponed to 26th May 2026
As per the new update shared by Rockstar Games, the much-awaited release of GTA VI has been postponed to next year and will only be taking place on the 26th of May 2026. The video game developer has been building up hype towards its possible release this year in 2025, with the newly-launched Discord featuring a dedicated GTA VI channel and the official trailer, and this unexpected re-scheduling of the release has made its impatient fans more frustrated.
The brand has apologized for delaying the game release even more and has revealed that as always, this time too, the goal is to deliver the game at the best level of quality – quality that its fans expect and deserve. Also, updates concerning the game can be expected soon, as suggested by the brand.
Now coming to the question whether it will be getting a Guinness World Record for the longest video game development period – No, it won’t.
As of now, this title is held by the first-person shooter game – Duke Nukem Forever. It was officially announced back on the 28th of April 1997 by 3D Realms and was released much later on the 10th of June 2011 by Gearbox Software after it purchased the intellectual property from 3D Realms and took over the game development – a period of 14 years and 43 days.
Regarding GTA VI, the preliminary work of the game was announced sometime around 2014 following the GTA V release, and its major development began in 2018 following the Red Dead Redemption 2 release. So considering that GTA VI is set to be released on the 26th of May 2026, the projected development period is only about 12 years, lesser than that of Duke Nukem Forever.
