Helldivers 2 ‘Omens of Tyranny’ Update Brings Back the Illuminate Faction, Limited Edition Controller Revealed

Helldivers 2 is getting a major content update called ‘Omens of Tyranny,’ which reintroduces the formidable Illuminate faction to the game. After nearly a century of absence in the game’s lore, these advanced beings are returning with powerful technology that poses a new threat to Super Earth’s democracy.

The update introduces urban warfare, bringing the fight to Super Earth’s colonies. Players will navigate through dark alleys and city streets, a significant change from the open battlefields they’re used to. A new “Fast Recon Vehicle” (FRV) is being added, featuring manual transmission and the ability to carry multiple squad members who can fire from the windows.

The Illuminate’s return brings a sinister new enemy type called “The Voteless” – mind-controlled citizens who have been corrupted and stripped of their voting rights. These enemies will be encountered alongside mysterious structures and insurgent activities throughout the colonies.

Helldivers 2 Limited Edition DualSense Controller

In addition to the update, PlayStation has announced a Helldivers 2 Limited Edition DualSense Controller, featuring the game’s iconic yellow and black color scheme. The controller will be available for $84.99/€84.99/£74.99, with pre-orders starting December 20, 2024, exclusively through direct.playstation.com in select regions. The official launch is set for February 6, 2025.

For music enthusiasts, a vinyl version of the Helldivers 2 soundtrack is also being released. It features music by Wilbert Roget, II, on a translucent bright yellow disc.

The update is already available, so players can jump in and try out all the new content. You’ll now be fighting three enemy types: the bugs, the robots, and these new mind-controlling aliens.
