Yesterday, Apple officially introduced its all-new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, featuring breakthrough tandem OLED technology that delivers game-changing front-of-screen performance.
Apple MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display
Available in 14- and 16-inch models, MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display offers a visual experience with up to 2000 nits peak HDR and SDR brightness, an industry-leading 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio for exceptional detail, a 120Hz variable refresh rate, and a wider colour gamut covering both P3 and Adobe RGB for brilliant colours.
The PRROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology and advances it with breakthroughs in every layer, advanced algorithms in the display engine, and a state-of-the-art factory calibration process to deliver Extreme Dynamic Range (XDR) and stunning visual fidelity. This display offers tandem OLED technology unlike any other, with deep innovations in its layers that keep brightness and grayscale uniform across the entire display, while minimising internal reflections common in traditional OLED designs.
The display engine precisely controls the colour and luminance of every pixel at the sub-millisecond level, compensating for context, pixel use, temperature, and environment all at once to offer exceptional brightness uniformity and grayscale accuracy, even in fast-motion content. It also monitors and adapts each pixel’s usage over time to preserve stunning image quality.
With up to 2000 nits peak SDR brightness, combined with a state-of-the-art antireflective coating, the display is ready even in bright lighting conditions. There is also a nano-texture option, now precisely etched into the cover glass.
MacBook Pro features Touch for the first time. Crafted specifically for the Mac, every touch interaction feels incredibly responsive and refined. The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel, reducing latency so users feel like they’re touching the content itself. A newly designed hinge provides greater stability while using Touch, and advanced video stabilisation automatically smooths the camera feed in real time while using Touch on a video call.
Apple apps are optimised for the new MacBook Pro, and many existing apps work with Touch right away, because macOS automatically translates touches into clicks. A wide range of third-party apps will also take advantage of Touch; these include: Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and more.
The Dynamic Island comes to the Mac, serving as the new home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, where users can quickly search for anything on their MacBook Pro, access real-time updates, or take advantage of Siri AI.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro now weighs half a pound less at 3 pounds, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs just 4 pounds. Both models feature a slimmer design enabled by OLED’s more efficient display stack, with the 16-inch model nearly a millimetre thinner and the 14-inch model half a millimetre thinner.
With slimmer display borders, the 16-inch display grows to 16.3 inches, while the 14-inch display delivers a more portable 14.2-inch design. And a completely redesigned thermal architecture enables the same incredible sustained performance of M5 Pro and M5 Max, even in a lighter design, while redirecting warm air away from the display.
The new MacBook Pro features M5 Pro and M5 Max, Apple’s most powerful chips ever built for a pro laptop. M5 Pro offers game-changing performance for scientists, engineers, software developers, and creative pros tackling intensive projects, accelerating everything from compiling code and running AI tasks to sequencing DNA and editing multiple streams of 8K ProRes video. M5 Max is built for users who want to push the limits even further, including 3D VFX artists, AI developers, and film composers. With M5 Max, pros can run LLMs with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device and accelerate intense workflows across detailed visual effects, 3D animation projects, film scores, and 8K video post-production.
A powerful Neural Accelerator built into each GPU core lets users speed through AI workloads like running a coding agent with an on-device LLM. M5 Pro and M5 Max each feature a GPU with enhanced shader cores and a third-generation ray-tracing engine, delivering more photorealistic lighting and faster renders for 3D modelling.
The industry-leading six-speaker audio system in the new MacBook Pro features an all-new woofer design that provides 50 percent deeper bass and all-new tweeters that shape sound dispersion for remarkable clarity. Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos wraps users in immersive sound for music and movies, and studio-quality mics deliver clean, clear audio for calls, recordings, and voice commands. And for the first time, dedicated audio tuning for closed-lid use delivers exceptional sound quality when MacBook Pro is connected to an external display.
Additional New features
- The Apple Pro Display Calibrator gives pros the ability to calibrate their display to specific targets. In addition, pros can take advantage of industry-standard reference modes for cinematic standards, photography, print, design, and more. And with new DICOM medical imaging reference modes, the display can be used today to review medical images with outstanding grayscale accuracy and contrast when used for research and educational purposes.
- Through Apple Colour Matching Function 2026, the PROLED XDR display delivers a seamless, consistent visual experience when paired with iPhone 18 Pro or Studio Display XDR.
- With support for genlock, MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display synchronises a display’s refresh rate with a camera’s capture to minimise ghosting, tearing, and other visual artefacts when filming, making it highly valuable for virtual productions and on-set work.
- Apple Creator Studio opens up new ways to create on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, optimising for Touch alongside the precision of the keyboard and trackpad. With Pixelmator Pro, creators can interact with their designs directly on the canvas, making use of the fully interactive display to draw, paint, and select with even more fluidity. In Logic Pro, musicians can play software instruments with a fully Multi-Touch polyphonic keyboard, along with tappable chord and drum pads onscreen. And in Final Cut Pro, editors can use Touch to precisely mark ranges, drop clips directly into place, pinch to zoom in on a cut, and more.
The new MacBook Pro includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. In addition to the PROLED XDR display, it supports up to three external displays with M5 Pro and up to four with M5 Max. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 provide fast, reliable wireless connectivity, and Touch ID enables a quick, easy, and secure login experience. With its fast-charge capability, MacBook Pro can charge up to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes. In addition, storage is now configurable up to 16TB.
The device runs on macOS 27 and includes Siri AI, helpful Apple Intelligence features and an expansive set of improvements that make the Mac even more responsive and reliable. It is made with 55 per cent recycled content overall, including 100 per cent recycled aluminium in the enclosure, 100 per cent recycled cobalt in the battery, and, in a first for Apple, 100 per cent recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors.
