Rise of AI in the automobile industry: companies adopting AI

AI is a burning technology in the market across industries. Be it telecom, communication or automobile. What are the expectations from AI in automobile industry? Also, which car manufacturing companies are bringing AI to application?

Automobile industry

The world has witness the rise of AI. Now, technology comes up with solutions to alleviate human shortcomings in every humane epoch. Also, with ever-growing complexity, the solutions to problems cannot come to halt. In 21st century, one such technology is artificial intelligence, AI.

Also, automobile industry is the most significant technology in inducing industrial revolution across the world. It helped in achieving a much needed and an unforeseen possibility. Today, automotives, be it cars, motorbikes, trains, trucks, airplanes, rockets and so on, can take us to office or Mars and beyond.

Alhough, with the support of fuel. Since, we don’t have a perpetual motion machine. (Thus, a matter of laughing stocks)

Automobiles and AI combined: Autonomous vehicles

In the past two decades, automobile companies are constantly thriving. For instance, they are introducing electric engines for electric vehicles (EVs), keyless ignitions etc.

Nevertheless, what if we merge AI and automobiles? We get a popular notion of driverless vehicles! It means that cars might not need drivers to be driven with the introduction of this technology. It stands for a hands-free experience. However, an elephant in the room that cannot be ignored is the safety factors that come along an AI driven car. Is the rise of AI new to us?

Moreover, it’s not a new concept though. Today, driverless cars are tested widely around the world to achieve a certainty on its functioning and be globally accepted. Currently, automobile industry has invested $54 billion in artificial intelligence to produce self-driven cars. Therefore, market has high hopes with it. Thus, they expect over 30 million driverless cars on roads within two decades. Moreover, small and medium scale business believe it to be a promising technology for their operations. Thus, the world is witnessing a rise of AI in automobile industry.

Not very surprisingly, self driving cars are already taking to roads. Cities like New York, San Francisco are already welcoming it.

Not only car manufacturers, but also startups are driven by the innovation of AI. Now, multiple startups are bringing AI in application to automobiles’ facilitation. Based on different parts of the world, they rely on real-time analytics to introduce different types of AI based facilities in cars. Starting from self driving system and predictive maintenance to predicting the cost of repair for insurances.

Know more about the rise of AI amongst automakers:

1988, ABB

Firstly, It’s based on Colorado. Note that, their work experience on robotics, industry automation is both intensive and extensive. Moreover, their footprints are earmarked in UK, Canada, Mexico etc.

Therefore, they produce technology for self driving cars.

2004, Unity Technologies

Second in the queue, it originated in San Francisco. Further, it works on one of the important aspect of AI in automotive, 3D technology. Thus, It works on 3D interface and interactive VR to enable machine learning. After all, machine learning would in turn promote self driving.

2007, WiTricity

Then came Witricity. It hails from Watertown, MA. It works to expand the reach of e-charging for e-vehicles. Also, it’s e-charging stations are constantly changing for advanced efficiency.

2008, Cloudmade and Zscaler

Cloudmade is from San Francisco. It aims to bring ease between a user’s interaction and with technology. Moreover, it works upon smart AI technology to introduce personalised experience and optimise other experiences.

Zscaler is based on San Jose. They work upon cloud and mobile optimisation. Thus, they hail uninterrupted interaction between users and devices.

2009, Waymo and Uber

Waymo and Uber are based on San Francisco, like many others.

Waymo is was originally based on Google’s research project. They work to produce to AI self driving cars that would efficiently respond to environmental factors.

While, Uber is the popular e-cab service. Moreover, with teaming up with Toyota, it is exploring AI prospects.

2012, Swift Navigation

It finds its root in San Francisco. They work on designing autonomous vehicles. Also, they work upon GPS accuracy.

2013, Cruise

It is based on San Francisco. Now, it’s a combination of self-driving and ride sharing technology. Further, they focus on intensive simulation tests based on AI. Also, they test to ensure traffic rules and precautions.

2014, Zoox

It comes from San Francisco. They also focus on autonomous vehicles, i.e., AI combined with e-cab services.

2015, Optimus Ride, Ouster, Carmera, Nauto, Reality AI, DeepScale, and HAAS Alert

Optimus Ride hails from Boston. They aim at building autonomous shuttle service to achieve the goal of end to end mobility.

Ouster, Carmera, Nauto, and Deepscale are based on San Francisco.

Again, Ouster aims at creating 3D sensor technology. While, Carmera is responsible for developing a self updating HD mapping technology. Nauto focuses on creating their own self driving cars. Deepscale brings in application neural network to detect threats and so on. So, it will increase the performance of autonomous vehicles on road.

Reality AI is based on New York city. Similarly, it is cloud based technology that makes detection of environmental factors easy.

HAAS Alert is based on Chicago. They work on cloud communication to extend autonomous automotive. Hence, they focus to keep you safe.

2016, Seeva Technologies, Arity, AutoX, and Embark Trucks

Their background is from Seattle, Chicago, San Jose, and San Francisco respectively.

Seeva works on 3D technology. Arity works on analytics to predict problems around automotive. AutoX takes as challenge the world’s most hustle bustle roads, like China’s.  Now, Embark Trucks takes under umbrella logistics’ concerns. Hence, they work on safety for them.
